Access Innovations, Inc., provider of Data Harmony software solutions, is proud to announce a recently completed project with McGraw-Hill  to create a series of robust taxonomies that will support the back end of AccessEngineering. These taxonomies will improve search functionality for those interested in AccessEngineering’s educational materials.

During the course of the project, three taxonomies were developed to cover the wide variety of engineering topics covered in AccessEngineering. These will be used to aid in search, browse, and subject indexing for books, spreadsheet calculators, tutorials and videos. The taxonomy work done in this project will allow for searching content items at the most granular levels, such as a particular table or figure in a book’s chapter.

“The AccessEngineering data is intricate and complex,” says Marjorie M. K. Hlava, President of Access Innovations, Inc. “With the new taxonomies, we accurately tagged each level of the content, in some cases down to the paragraph level.”

“We are very excited to work with McGraw-Hill on this venture,” comments Samantha Lewis, project manager at Access Innovations. “Improved search on AccessEngineering will benefit students, professors, and engineers looking for educational content.”

The current taxonomies cover engineering topics, various standards for each field of engineering, and named equations used by engineers in their work. These taxonomies will continue to grow and evolve as AccessEngineering’s content grows. Access Innovations is also working on a user interface for MHE that will enhance their current workflow and will integrate the new indexing using Data Harmony’s MAIstro application.
