Acts I and II were simulcast by one hour delayed transmission and Act III was live. At the conclusion of the opera Joseph Volpe, Bruce Crawford, James W. Kinnear and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani joined the cast on-stage. Domingo was presented with a New York City Proclamation by the Mayor which dedicated the day in his honor. Volpe spoke about Domingo's unbroken record of thirty years with the Company and the fact that his seventeenth opening night tied Enrico Caruso's record. He presented Mr. Domingo with a Caruso self-portrait caricature and the opening bars of "La dolcissima effigie" from Adriana Lecouvreur (the opera of his debut) framed with an autographed photo of the composer, Francesco Cilea. Domingo thanked his family for their support and spoke at length about his association with the Met. He singled out Messrs. Volpe, Crawford and Levine for their contributions.
