Review 1:

Review of Michael Brozen in Musical America
The news of ?Otello? on February 25 was Arturo Segri?s first Metropolitan Opera appearance in the title role. It was not especially good news, however, for Mr. Segri showed little command of the part. His characterization was sketchy, and he seemed uncomfortable in the music. He had little control of his voice at either extreme; only in the middle register did it show an attractive color and steady vibrato. Other firsts at the house were Gabor Carelli, as Roderigo and Russell Christopher, as a Herald, both of whom sang handsomely.

Zinka Milanov, replacing the indisposed Leonie Rysanek, was in fine voice, producing lovingly shaped phrases and refined pianissimos. Firsts of the season were Mignon Dunn, as Emilia, whose gracefully stylized acting was complemented by her velvety voice, and John Macurdy, in the small role of Lodovico.
