TOSCANINI TRIBUTE
Formal tributes to Arturo Toscanini began at the Metropolitan Opera House last night. Rudolf Bing prefaced the performance of "Madame Butterfly" with a brief speech. Dimitri Mitropoulos then led the orchestra in the prelude to Act 4 of "Traviata" for which the audience stood. Earlier in the evening a wreath had been placed on Toscanini's bust.
