Review 1:
Review of Oscar Thompson in the New York Sun:
Saturday night's "Tannh?user" was marked by the Metropolitan debut of a new Wolfram, in the person of the very eminent German Baritone, Herbert Janssen, who had already appeared with the company in Philadelphia. Though possibly not in his best voice, the Bayreuth veteran sang the "Address" of the second act and the "Evening Star" apostrophe of the third with warmth of tone and gratifying command of the lyric phrase.
