Rosa Ponselle and Gigli Are Heard in 'L'Africana'
Serafin Conducts Meyerbeer Opera at the Metropolitan
The opera matinee yesterday at the Metropolitan was "L'Africana" with Rosa Ponselle and Beniamino Gigli in the stellar roles. Miss Lerch sang Ines. Mr. Danise was Nelusko, and others in the cast were: Miss Flexer, and Messrs. Ludikar, Ananian, Bada, Pinza, Reschiglian, and Altglass. Mr. Serafin conducted. Miss Ponselle has never been in better voice and contrived to carry some of the regal glamour of "Norma" over into this less exacting portrayal.
