Review 1:
Review in The Morning Telegraph:
Many Brave Storm for Knote's Farewell
Tenor in "Die Meistersinger" Affected by Warmth of Reception at the Metropolitan
It had to be pretty good grand opera to attract music lovers to the Metropolitan Opera House last night, but they came swirling through the snow in autos and carriages to hear Heinrich Knote, the German tenor, sing his American farewell in "Die Meistersinger."
Although there were many vacant seats, and some boxers without their usual occupants, the house was not a small one, either in numbers or enthusiasm, and Knote found cause for genuine satisfaction in the public "bon voyage" extended to him.
He sang Walther with much sincerity of expression and left his auditors with the impression that they had not braved the storm without full recompense. Knote received several floral wreaths by his admirers and seemed quite touched with the generally expressed regret at his departure.
Mme. Ackt? sang Eva charmingly, and Mme. Homer endowed Magdalene with considerable vocal wealth.
Because of the illness of M. Goritz, Greder sang Beckmesser and Dufriche, the double role of the Nachtwaechter and Nachtigall.
Knote is to sail this morning, if the weather permits, on the French liner Savoie. He will go to Munich. Mme. Senger-Bettaque will also sail on the same steamship.
