Metropolitan Opera House Concert

Last evening for the first time the audience at a Sunday night concert failed to crowd the Metropolitan. This may have been due to the attractiveness of the Damrosch concert at the Carnegie hall, or it may have been because Mr. Seidl was ill and Mr. Van Der Stucken was to conduct for the first time at these entertainments. The programme, however, and its rendering were excellent. Ysaye played the paraphrase from "Siegfried" with the breath and beauty which marks his treatment of Wagner's music and have also the familiar Bruch concerto in D minor and a piece by Wieniawski. Mrs. Blauvelt sang with great beauty Verdi's "Sicilian Vespers," Bemberg's "Nymphs and Sylvains" and a German song. The orchestra under Mr. Van Der Stucken played acceptably several of Mr. Seidl's favorite numbers.
