Review 1:

Review in The New York Times

Metropolitan Opera House.

At the Metropolitan Opera House last evening. Gounod's "Philemon et Baucis" and Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana" were given again. There was a tolerably large audience and an abundance of enthusiasm. Both operas were well given. The cast in the first opera was the same as heretofore, consisting of Mme. Arnoldson as Baucis, M. Plan?on as Jupiter, M. Castelmary as Vulcan, and M. Maugiere as Philemon. In the Mascagni work Mme. Calv? repeated her superb impersonation of Santuzza, arousing the greatest enthusiasm. The Turiddu was Signor de Lucia, who gave the part character and dramatic force. Signor Martapoura replaced M. Dufriche as Alfio. The rest of the cast was the same as before. Signor Bevignani conducted. This afternoon "Lohengrin" will be given, with Jean de Reszke as the Knight of the Grail.
