Review 1:

Review : Dispatch from Chicago to The New York Times

The first appearance of Mlle. Van Zandt in her native land was the significant feature of Friday night's performance, when "La Sonnambula" was given. She was accorded a very hearty welcome. She made a delightful Amina, her acting being marked by naturalness and artlessness. Her entire freedom from mannerisms makes her impersonation doubly agreeable. She has a lyric soprano voice, not wide in compass, but round and delicately sympathetic, very flexible, and fine in its quality. Her method is perfect, and a voice better adapted to colorature music could not be found. She has the true artistic instinct and her work throughout was characterized by the greatest delicacy and taste.
