Review 1:
Review in The New York Times:
METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE
There was a tolerably good house last evening when Goldmark's "Queen of Sheba" was repeated necessarily. It was not to have been done, but owing to the continued illness of Herr Kalisch the "Barber of Bagdad" could not be produced, and it is Stanton's intention now not to bring it forward until next Friday evening when, it is hoped, Herr Kalisch will have escaped from the cruel embrace of "la grippe."
The only new feature of last evening's performance was the appearance of Herr Reichmann as King Solomon, a r?le which he has not essayed here before. He was an imposing figure and acted the role with dignity, though with no especial force. Unfortunately he departed from the pitch in his first scene, and thenceforward wandered about in a vain search for it. The carefulness of his phrasing and the intelligence of his delivery therefore went for naught.
Frau Lehmann was again the Queen, and her performance was excellent, though it was evident that she spared her voice at times. Herr Perotti's Assad is one of the best of his parts, and though he was not in good voice last evening he achieved his usual effect with the audience. Fr?ulein Wiesner was the only member of the company who was at her best, and she sang Sulamith agreeably. The chorus and orchestra were in good form, and the pageantry of the opera moved with its usual glittering front.
