Review 1:
Review in The New York Times
METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE.
The performance of "Siegfried" at the Metropolitan Opera House last evening was wonderfully spirited and was followed with great interest by a large audience. Herr Alvary was made the subject of special demonstrations on the part of those present. He was received with loud applause on his entrance, and at the end of the first act was recalled no less than six times with cheers. Similar expressions of approval followed the ends of the other two acts. These demonstrations were undoubtedly called forth by the fact that Herr Alvary is to depart at the end of the season, and there is much honest regret over this.
The young tenor never appeared to better advantage than he did last evening in the r?le which he created in this country. It is unnecessary to add anything to the comments already published in regard to his performance of the young Siegfried. It will be long remembered as one of the most artistic achievements of the operatic stage in America. The other members of the cast were the same as heretofore. The opera was carried to its noble conclusion with great effectiveness. The orchestra was admirable throughout the evening.
