METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE.
Meyerbeer's opera, "Der Prophet," was performed again at the Metropolitan Opera House last evening. The audience was not so large as that which attended Wednesday evening's performance of "Das Rheingold" but it endeavored to atone for its size by a display of enthusiasm. The evening's proceedings moved with great smoothness. Herr Perotti was in fine voice, and treated those who are fond of expansive high notes to a goodly feast of their favorite intellectual pabulum. In some respects his interpretation of John of Leyden is the best thing he has done here. He sings with all the earnestness at his command. Unfortunately, his methods largely resemble those of the class of actors known as ranters. If he would study the art of repose and assume an aspect of dignity it would materially alter for the better this impersonation.
