Review 1:
Review in The New York Times:
METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE
"Tannh?user" was performed for the fifth time this season at the Metropolitan Opera House last evening, and was witnessed by a very numerous audience. The same artists that appeared in the earlier representations of the work were beheld in it again, special interest attaching, however, to Herr Niemann's portrayal of Tannh?user, which was seen yesterday for the last time this year, if not forever. The German tenor's delineation of Elizabeth's hapless lover has often been described in these columns as distinguished by simplicity, strength and deep feeling, and in the touching finale of the second act and in the still more pathetic incidents of the d?nouement the impression he produced was quite as vivid as on former occasions. Herren Fischer, Robinson, and Alvary and Fr?ulein Lehmann were also heard to at least as great advantage as before, while Frau Seidl-Krauss was scarcely at her best and sang with more effort, even, than usual. There were recalls for all the artists after each act, and an enthusiastic demonstration after the final curtain had fallen.
