Review 1:

Review by Henry Krehbiel, New York Tribune:

Frau Kraus's Elsa?was almost a complete realization of the poet-composer's ideal-womanly tenderness, maidenly simplicity, gracious innocence and fearful curiosity; all were there, and over all, under all and through all the action as well as the music allotted to the part. The high degree in which Frau Kraus caught this spirit lent new beauty to her fresh and lovely voice and heightened the directness and force of her acting. The opposite of this character in all things was exemplified in the singing and acting of Fr?ulein Brandt, a most thrilling, forceful impersonation of Ortrud.
