Review 1:
Review in The New York Times:
METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE
"Faust" was given at the Metropolitan Opera House yesterday afternoon. The audience was a remarkably large one - according to statements made in the box-office, the largest of the season. The cast was the same as it has heretofore been in this opera. Mme. Nilsson was heard again with great pleasure in her charming impersonation of Margherita. Her rendering of the familiar but always pleasing music was characterized by its usual expressiveness and artistic treatment. Signor Campanini repeated his well-known performance of Faust, which is always picturesque and forcible. He sang with great feeling, and his "Salva dimora" was rendered with beautiful finish. Mme. Scalchi's Siebel has become a familiar effort with this public and was not lacking in its usual effectiveness. Signor Del Puente was a graceful and manly Valentino and sang his music conscientiously. Mme. Lablache as Marta, was amusing in action and meritorious in vocalization. Signor Novara was again the Mephistopheles, and Signor Conitini was Wagner. The chorus and orchestra were praiseworthy in their work, and the ballet added vivacity to the kermesse scene.
